Paths to the Future

Together we harvest, prepare, and share wild foods with respect. Camps teach safety, ethics, and practical methods—field dressing, hide work, drying and smoking, and safe storage.

Our ways are taught in place—around the fire, on the trail, and in the language of the land. Elders lead; youth learn; families carry teachings home with confidence and pride.

Land time is healing time. Ceremony and teaching circles create space for connection, grief, laughter, and growth—supporting mental, physical, and spiritual wellness.

We learn the responsibilities that come with harvesting: habitat observation, seasonal awareness, cultural site care, and the protocols that guide how we live with the land.

Young people learn shoulder-to-shoulder with Elders, aunties, and uncles—taking on real camp roles, practicing language and protocol, and learning by doing. Mentors check in, build confidence, and help youth step into safe leadership on the land.

Teachings become next steps: cultural responsibilities at home today, and tomorrow’s learning in guiding, conservation, forestry, health, trades, arts, and leadership. We connect youth to mentors, references, and training so livelihoods grow from culture.

Our Story

The Secwépemc Hunting Society is a community-led society in the Interior of BC. We create intergenerational camps where Elders guide and youth learn in safe, supportive settings.

While our teachings center Secwépemc knowledge, our camps are open to First Nations relatives and—where appropriate—to the wider public seeking respectful, land-based learning.

We operate independently to ensure continuity beyond political cycles, working with partners who honour cultural leadership and community wellness.
